Product Profile
Bareroot
Refers to Bareroot field-grown transplants. We give
suggested pot size to help you better plant your production and
to give you a better idea of the very large grades that we
supply. Most of the bareroot material is suitable for a 1
to 2 gallon pot. We pay special attention to
harvesting our bareroot winter stored material only when the
plants are fully dormant. Although this means harvesting
under sometimes wet and cold conditions, we believe it makes a
big difference in the quality and material of the plants you
receive.
Vernalized (Cold Treated) pots and plugs
Unless otherwise noted, the pots and plugs listed in our catalog
are vernalized and shipped dormant. Cold-treated pots and
plugs will outperform their non cold-treated counterparts by
leaps and bounds! They already have a year of growth
behind them, and not only do they have a better chance of
blooming, but they more often have multiple dormant buds that
ultimately produce more shoots and a fuller plant.

A note on our native plants
You will find in this catalog a wonderful selection of native
plants, noted with this symbol. None of our plants,
including the ferns, are collected from the wild, they are all
nursery grown.
A note on the pot sizes we suggest-
We give a suggested pot size range for most of the plants in our
catalog and in our availability list. The low end of the range,
for example a 4" pot, will be filled out in a relatively short
period of time. The upper end of the pot size suggested range is
meant to be used as an approximate gauge only, to help you plant
your production. For example, if the cultural directions
we provide are utilized, most of the plants will easily outgrow
a trade gallon in 2 to 4 months. When this happens and the
plants become difficult to keep watered, as a result of their
root bound condition, the larger pot will have been a welcome
investment. Actual results may vary depending on the many
factors associated with optimum plant growth.

Basic Tips for Success when Growing Perennials from Liners
- Start with a good soiless or bark based medium that has proved successful for other growers. Experimenting with unproven soils at this time could be very costly in many respects.
- Incorporate a good slow release
fertilizer such as (Osmocote plus with micros 15-9-12, 5 to 6 month).
- Water the plants the first time with a water
soluble starter fertilizer.
This is a brief summary of important basics that allows you to prepare for your plants before they arrive. More complete cultural instructions will be included with your order.
Pot-Tags
-
Are available in one of the 3 types listed below.
Portrait
-
We are now offering, with most of our plants, a large 2" x 7"
'Portrait Tag'. Most of the front side is devoted to a
large picture and a few good basic, easy to understand symbols.
To read the back there is no need to pull the tag from the pot,
because most of the information is on the back and readable when
the tag is bent over towards you while still in the pot.
Their cost is $ .16 each.
Please note:
If a portrait tag is not available, we will automatically
substitute with either a 'other picture tag' or an 'Black and
white tag'. The 'Other picture tag' or 'Black and white'
tag cannot be specifically requested.
Other picture tag
-
Although we are in the process of offering as many plants as
possible with the Portrait Tag, we have some smaller picture
tags. Their cost is $.10 each.
Black and white tags -
We do not always have a
good picture for a good plant, but don't believe that a good
plant should not be made available because it doesn't have a
pretty label. A few of the plants will only be available
with a black and white pot tag.
Black and White tags are $ .09 each.
